As Home Economics and Food Studies educators, our aim is to develop the cognitive, affective, creative and psychomotor skills of all the students with the use of active learning approaches.

Through the various components taught, we seek at helping students to become self-reflective and life-long learners.

Lower Secondary Level

• Home Economics

More information :

• Home-Economics is offered to all students, both boys and girls, as a compulsory subject.
• At this level, students have the possibility to acquire knowledge and skills on various contents.
• The students develop their understanding and build their knowledge in the three components of Home-Economics, namely: Human development and Family, Food and Nutrition; and Design and Textile.
• These topics explain the daily life of a human being. Through these topics, the holistic development of pupils is developed and pupils are more equipped to meet the ever-changing needs of the society.
• Through practical classes and the different teaching strategies and tools used, students acquire creative, aesthetic and life skills.

Upper Secondary Level

• SC level: Food and Nutrition
• HSC Level: Food Studies

• Students (boys and girls) can opt for Food and Nutrition at ‘O’ level and Food Studies at ‘A’ level; either in the Technical or Science side.
• They will then acquire more scientific knowledge in the field of nutrition, and recipe selection, modification and application in this domain.
• They are assessed on both a theoretical and practical basis, thus caring for diverse learning styles.
• The coursework included at ‘A’ level allows students to develop their communicative, academic,writing and thinking skills. The educators guide the students throughout the coursework.
• A major change has occurred since 2015 where Food pupils are able to sit for their practical exams at CSM.
• We are one of the rare colleges to offer Food Studies/Food and Nutrition to both boys and girls. At the end of SC/HSC level, students have the required knowledge and skills to continue their studies in various domains related to Food.
