History of College Ste Marie

10th Anniversary

College Ste Marie

College Sainte Marie opened its doors on the 17th January, 2005 at St. Charles Lees in Rose Hill. It started with two classes of Form I , 45 students , boys and girls . It is now located in its new premises in Palma, Quatre -Bornes , on four acres of land.

Thanks to the initiative of our Bishop, Mgr Maurice Piat E. c.s.sp. , the project of a fee-paying catholic college was established , a college educating the Mauritian youth by inculcating true human and spiritual values.

The school is of course open to all youth in the country.

Thanks to the initiative of our Bishop, Mgr Maurice Piat E. c.s.sp. , the project of a fee-paying catholic college was established , a college educating the Mauritian youth by inculcating true human and spiritual values.

With the decision of the Catholic authorities to accommodate students of all academic levels in catholic schools (the Mixed Ability), many Catholic parents wondered if their children would have access to a Catholic institution . They informed the Bishop of their concerns and expressed their strong desire to choose this type of education , through the creation of a private fee-paying Catholic college. Many Catholic parents want to give their children this quality Catholic education , based on the Gospel. In Mauritius there was no fee-paying Catholic college.

The motto chosen by the College :

Learn to serve

discere ad serviendum

which can be translated in two ways, both with very laudable and meaningful messages "Learning to serve, learn to serve."

During the ceremony of the blessing of the College in Palma on 7 July 2006 in the presence of Cardinal Archbishop Jean Margéot, Bishop Piat invited the College to promote a systematic culture of solidarity and mutual assistance between staff between students. 'May the college put into practice its motto "learn to serve.'

Initially, the school is intended to give priority to students from Loreto schools, and has benefited from the collaboration of the Loreto Institutes. Thus, our spirituality and philosophy are based on those of Loreto institutions. With our director, Ms. Janine Provençal, who comes from a Loreto college, the school continues to be guided by the philosophy and Loreto culture. Moreover, the college has for model the mother of Jesus himself, the Virgin Mary, who is the ideal of wisdom and faith.

The school is of course open to all youth in the country
